The El Malpais VE Group will conduct a Tech Level Amateur Radio Class on Friday, April 26, thru Sunday, April 27. It is open to anyone who wants to gain the entry license to operate on the amateur radio bands.
The class will be conducted at the APD NW Area Command Substation, 10401 Cibola Loop NW. It just north of Cibola HS, east of the corner of Coors By-Pass and Ellison Blvd. The classes are in the community room, with the entrance on the left front of the substation. There are restrooms, and coffee and morning snacks will be provided.
Classes are scheduled: Fri, April 26, 2013 1800-2100
Sat, April 27, 2013 0900-1700
Sun, April 28, 2013 0900-1600
Both Saturday and Sunday will have one hour lunch break. You can bring your own or visit one of the many food vendors in the Cottonwood Area.
Testing will occur at 1400. VEs will be present to monitor the test, per the FCC.
The ARRL Technician License Manual can be order from ARRL for $30, plus postage. You could also borrow one from a friend who has one, but be sure you have the current version – we once had a member give his wife an outdated Tech Manual with the old questions, and when she failed the exam she won a free trip to Las Vegas! The current manual is “Second Edition”. Or Frank Warren, VEC for this group, can order them at $25 and ARRL will waive the postage to Mr. Warren as a Master Instructor. Please mail him a check for $25 to Frank Warren, 4972 Turquoise Dr, Rio Rancho, NM 987124-4572. Please order these prior to April 15th, to allow for the shipping in time for class.
Cyber Academy Students can sign out the License Manual from the school. The Cyber Academy Amateur Radio Club has several manuals available for the Cyber Academy and they are the same manuals other class members have to buy.
The only fee for the class is the testing fee, required by the FCC. It is $14, cash or check payable to Frank Warren at the time of the test. For testing, you will need a picture ID. State, School, Federal or any similar document will suffice.
If you are interested in the class, please reply to Jim Hunter, hunterabq. If you sign up I will e-mail you a copy of the study guide, which you can read until you get your manual.
