PUBLIC SERVICE EVENTS CALENDAR – 2014 (As of 7/27/14)
You are receiving this message because you are on my e-mail list to
receive periodic listings of events for which amateur radio
communications support has been requested. If you wish to be removed
from the address list, please let me know.
These are the events presently known to me. There will be others; stay tuned.
Information/volunteers: please contact Ed Ricco, N5LI unless otherwise indicated in the description of the particular event. n5li. 247-4866(h); 768-7314(w).
Notes and comments:
1. Changes from last list: Completed events deleted.
2. The MS150 bike ride is just over a month away and the volunteer turnout to date is very low. We need a lot of help for this event. Please consider volunteering for one or both days if you possibly can.
3. I will take volunteers for all listed events. Details on some to follow. There is need for volunteers across the board.
August 3, 2014 – La Luz Trail Run. Amateurs provide communications support for this annual race up La Luz Trail from positions in the starting area, at the finish, and from trail-side points along the course. Information from Jay Miller, jayw5whn. Unless something changes, this event is adequately staffed for this year.
September 6-7, 2014 – MS 150 Bicycle Tour. This is a two-day, 150-mile bicycle ride to raise funds to fight multiple sclerosis. The event organizers count on radio amateurs for essential medical, safety, and logistics communications support year after year. There will be two rides starting and ending in Pojoaque. The first day route will be a circuit running through San Juan Pueblo, Ojo Caliente, El Rito, and closing the loop back to Pojoaque via highways 554, 84, and 285. The second day route will be a circuit through Chimayo, Espanola, and San Ildefonso Pueblo. There will be an out-and-back spur on the second day either to Truchas or to Puye Cliffs (still to be determined). We will need volunteers for one or both days to operate mobile along course segments with the riders as “eyes and ears” for the event organizers or as sag vehicles, to accompany tour officials and supply trucks or medical personnel, and to operate from fixed locations at the rest stops.
September 14, 2014 – Tour of the Rio Grande Valley. This popular bicycle tour consists of a 100-mile ride originating in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque and running through Isleta and Los Lunas to south of Belen. There are shorter-distance rides included. Communications support for the event is expected to involve amateurs positioned at rest stops, with event officials, mobile along segments of the course, and possibly in support vehicles. The event is being coordinated by Dick Powell AD5CS.
October 19, 2014 – Duke City Marathon. Details TBA, pending announcement of this year’s course.
